Jamie’s mom is upset because she is worried about a friend she hasn’t heard from. Jamie promises to check on the friend, and he seems surprised when Pippa says she will go be with Donna. Pippa enjoys chatting with Donna and reflects on the depths she’s seeing in Jamie, who is now so much more to her than the guy she had a crush on in high school. She thinks, “I couldn’t bear the idea of Jamie losing interest in me like Zach did” (212). As they drive home, Pippa tells herself that Jamie doesn’t have room in his life for her, and she says they shouldn’t have sex again. She’s sure she knows how this will end for her.
The Storm plays Calgary, and Jamie watches Rory’s aggressive behavior, wondering what changed his friend. Jamie dwells on how attracted he is to Pippa, but he believes he can’t give her what she needs. After the game, Jamie is annoyed as Rory talks with Pippa and flirts with Hazel. Rory arranges for Pippa to show him around Vancouver the next day.
